Search Engine OptimizationThe key to increasing website traffic is thru optimization of your web sites
There are two types of optimization. One is offpage optimization and the other is onpage optimization. If done correctly it will greatly boost your web site statistics or your web counters.
Today, I will focus on onpage optimization.
And remember the basic objective for optimization : "To rank well on any search engines" (eg Yahoo, MSN or Google)
With that in mind, all you need to do to rank well is just to be slightly better than your competitors.
For whatever product that you are selling, go right now to Google and do a search for the keyword of your product. Eg:- if it is weight loss products that you are selling, then your keyword will be "weight loss, etc"
Look at the #1 ranked web site for eg "hypnosis training". You will it is :
Omni Hypnosis Training CenterOffering basic and advanced professional hypnosis classes for national certification. Live and home-study programs available.www.omnihypnosis.com/ - 5k -
Cached -
Similar pagesYou will observe that it has a page rank of 4/10.
Page Rank is Google's way of giving a specific value to how popular a website is. It is based on the number of "votes" other websites cast for your website. A "vote" is simply when another website places a link on their website that is pointing to your website. Generally, the more "votes" or links you have pointing to your website, the higher your Page Rank (PR) will be. Page Rank is one of the many factors that Google takes into account when ranking websites.
In order to see your own Google Page Rank, as well as others, you must have the Google Toolbar installed on your computer. You can get that for free here:
http://toolbar.google.com/Seeing that the #1 ranked website for this keyword only has a Page Rank of 4 is good for us, because a Page Rank of 4 should be reasonable to obtain. If the #1 web site has a page rank of 6 or more than it's going to be more challenging to beat it. If it is more than 6, then I suggest that you choose a less popular but relevant keyword. Remember the saying " it's better to be a big fish in a small pond than to be small fish in a big pond"
Ok moving on..
Once you have opened up
Omni Hypnosis Training Center web site, we need to view the source code of this website by clicking "view", then "source"
This will open up a text file for us to have a look at and see if this website is actually optimized.
Next we need to do the following checks:
Note: An easy way to check whether or not the website is using any of the tags mentioned below is to simply click the "edit" button within notepad, and then select the "find" option. Then just enter the specific tag you're looking for. For example) In the first bullet point below, we're looking for an h1 header tag. The specific code for this is <>. Type this into "find textbox" and click search. If the tag is in the source code, notepad will find it and highlight it. If it's not, it will tell you it's not found. 1. <>header tags: Are <> header tags being used by placing the keyword "hypnosis training" within those tags. In this case, when we do a search for this tag/text, we find that they are not... AND they aren't even using header tags at all.
2.<>tags : Are title tags being used? Are they using the main keywords in the using the in the <> tags of the website. In this case, they are, which is one of the main reasons they're currently ranked highly for "hypnosis training". There title is "Omni Hypnosis Training Centre" and the html code they used is:<> Omni Hypnosis Training Centre <>The <> tag is simply the text that appears at the top of the browser.
3. Are the Keywords "hypnosis training" in bold, italics or underlined? In this case they are not, which is another good thing for us.
4. Are <> image tags being used and placing the keyword " hypnosis training" within that tag. In this case, that answer is easy because they're not even using any images at all! This is definitely something we can do when optimizing our website. And another thing we can do to "one-up" this #1 ranked website. It is best to add images that are actually named after our main keyword. For example, we could insert an image and call it hypnos training-graphic1.jpg and so on
5. The final thing we want to note is whether or not they've placed the keyword once towards the very beginning of the web page, and once at the very end of the web page. Here we can see that the keyword "hypnosis training" is only see near the begining but not at the end.
We should now know how to out optimize the"on page ranking factors" for this #1 ranked website
... that Google deems as important.
The reason we know we can out optimize them is because of the following things we've found out by analyzing their website:
The website is not using the keyword "hypnosis training" in an <> header tag.
The keywords in the website are not in bold, italics or undelined
The website did not use <> image tags containing the keyword "hypnosis training".
The keyword is only seeen at the begining but not at the end.
The website has a Page Rank of 4, which can be beaten. With a little work, we can achieve a Page Rank of 4 or better.
*Remember, the main idea behind ranking well on Google is to analyze the top ranked websites and then do those things a little better that they're doing to be one up them, which should lead to a better ranking.
